Helping the Victims of the Chile Earthquake
Donate to www.ujannj.org/Chile
Our community has a history of responding quickly—and generously—to emergencies, wherever they occur.
This past Saturday, Chile was hit by a devastating earthquake. We are responding by setting up a Relief Fund to rush help to the scene.
We are working with our partners at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee—100% of all funds contributed to UJA NNJ’s fund are sent to the JDC which, in turn, is working on the scene to provide help to the Haitian people.
There are currently 12,000 – 14,000 Jews living in Chile. Most Jews live in the Capital of Santiago, approximately 200 miles north of the epicenter; and reports indicate that Jewish institutions there suffered damage as a result of the quake. There are at least 20 Jewish families that live near the epicenter, Concepcion, Chile’s second largest city.
